ABmR is Pleased to Announce the Fall of 2020 Science Writing Award: 

Submit an article to us for the chance to win the ABmR Writing Award!

The ABmR Writing Award is offered to 4 undergraduate students who have a strong interest in pursuing a career in biomedical research. Scientific communication skills are essential for any young scientist who wishes to effectively communicate their research findings and bridge the gap between (often complex) scientific information and public understanding.

​

For each prompt below, there will be two categories to submit:

Short Essay (500- 1000 words) -- $200 Writing Award

 Long Form  (1000-2000 words) -- $250 Writing Award

​

 Be assured, ABmR will also be publishing the top 20 submissions on our website!

The deadline for submission is Sunday, November 15th.

1. What part of biomedical research do you think deserves more funding, resources, and/or attention? Discuss this promising part of research and why you think it deserves more attention.

​

Examples of Possible Responses:

• To support immunology labs for the promising aspects of immunotherapies to treat cancer

• The use of human iPSC models to study human diseases (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, Heart   Disease).

• How improvements in sequencing technologies can help understand disease (Genomics, RNA Seq, Proteomics)

 

2.  Tell us your story! Explain your motivation for pursuing scientific research, what you find so intriguing about it and/or what obstacles (if any) that you had to overcome on your path.

Examples of Possible Responses:

• Tell us the story of how you joined your first lab? What was your project, responsibilities, and what did you learn from the experience?

• Who is your favorite scientist and how have they inspired you?

• What do you envision the future of science to look like? e.g. Personalized medicine/gene editing to cure disease, improvements in computation to understand gene networks.
